Transformational Leadership and Stigma in the Armed Forces Student’s Name Institution Transformational Leadership and Stigma in the Armed Forces The topic of transformational leadership studied in this course will be useful in my leadership role running a clinic of 200 personnel dealing with substance abuse in the United States Air Force. A significant problem in treating substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the armed forces is the stigma associated with seeking help related to mental disorders (Sharp et al., 2015). Many service members keep their mental health problems a secret as they fear for their careers. The silent suffering experienced by service members takes a toll on the country’s military readiness. Recognizing that this is a significant problem, the Department of Defense is making efforts in fighting stigma, and it is up to army leaders to take up the fight in their respective units.
