Introduction
The modern supply chain has become increasingly complex due to increasing global collaborations. Connectivity has boosted trade between diverse players, allowing manufacturers and service providers to supply goods and services to foreign markets using various interconnected stakeholders. According to Hassija et al. (2020), the participation of different organizations and varied regulations triggers complications in the supply chain, leading to varied threats. One of these is counterfeiting, which has become a menace due to its ability to create chaos across all supply chains indiscriminately. It affects the automotive, pharmaceutical, electronic, and consumer goods industries. Researchers such as Ghadge et al. (2021) recognize that this threat has raised concern among supply chain managers because of the magnitude of losses it triggers and the impact these effects have on the global economies. Even more concerning, the threat often occurs in concealed and sophisticated approaches, making it challenging to detect. Such an aspect has raised the need for supply chains to rethink their resilience strategies to overcome the impact of this threat. Thus, this research investigates the threat of counterfeiting on supply chains and their resilience.
Research Question
Global companies acknowledge that counterfeiting is a leading threat to their existence and stability. Ghadge (2021) emphasizes that this concern has triggered widespread research for approaches that supply chains can integrate to temper or eradicate the disruptive threat of counterfeiting. In this context, these efforts inform the specific research question for this study: What are the resilience strategies for the supply chain against the persistent threat of counterfeiting? This focus will reveal any milestones achieved so far in combating the menace.
