About Egypt
Egypt is a country found in North Africa. It lies in a desert plateau that extends from the Atlantic to the whole of northern Africa (Breasted, 2016). River Nile, which originates from Lake Victoria in East Africa runs across Egypt (Perry, 2015). The Egyptian communities depend on this river for their livelihoods. Egypt receives little amount of rainfall that can hardly sustain its nomad pastoralists and support agriculture (Perry, 2015). This necessitates that the water demand to be supplemented with irrigation from river Nile. Water from the Nile is harvested and stored in the Aswan High Dam, one of the largest dams in Africa.
Egypt’s climate is relatively good. The soil in Egypt is fertile due to deposition of silk from the mountains by the Nile (Lane, 1890). The air in Egypt is hot due to its location in the desert (Breasted, 2016). During the day, the temperatures are very high and they can be discomforting in case of a slight rise above the normal. Just like in the deserts, it is relatively cold at night. Winds blow a lot of dust, which could be disturbing. Egypt was a British colony until 1952. Its capital city is Cairo.
The Egyptians Customs
Egypt is mainly comprised of the Arabs (Perry, 2015). It is true to say that like most countries in North Africa, Egypt is an Arab country. The peoples’ language in the country is Arabic. Other minor groups constitute a very small proportion of the entire Egypt population. Notably, most Egyptians prefer to associate themselves with their religion rather than the term Arabs (Perry, 2016).
A vast majority of Egyptians are Muslims. This makes a 94% of the total population (Perry, 2016). Other religious groups in the country include Christianity, also known as Copts, and Judaism (Lane, 2012). However, Christianity and Judaism make a small percentage of the people living in Egypt. According to Perry (2016), there are two different forms of Islam in Egypt. One group, the Sunnis, adheres to the Islamic sharia laws and the other group, the Sufis, emphasize on personal communion with God rather than following a set of religious laws. The second group is not popular as it is seen as a rebellion from the true Islamic. The Christians of Egypt are mainly the Coptic. These are Christians who believe in a purely divine Christ than a Christ who took both the man and Godly being.
As mentioned earlier the lands in Egypt are well fertilized by the Nile. This provides good farming grounds. This is also boosted by the water of the Nile. A great majority of Egyptians are thus agriculturists. They use the water in the Nile to irrigate their farms and the produces are always abundant. Egyptians never depend on rain as it is hardly enough to grow their crops.
