Internal recruiting refers to a hiring process whereby the business looks for a workforce within the company without looking outside the business for applicants. The people employed by the firm include those whose names are already in the payroll (DeVaro, 2016). The employment process includes the promotion of existing employees, the re-hiring of employees who had once worked for the company and the transfer of employees to different departments. The internal hiring process is an important strategy in cases where the company wants to retain its employees and give them morale for working (Mello, 2014). For the company to achieve success through the internal hiring process, it must have a clear understanding of all the features associated with it. As such, this paper mainly discusses the advantages and disadvantages that are associated with the hiring process.
Advantages of internal hiring
Minimizes time used for hiring
When a company wants to hire employees, it does so by either posting about the job vacancy or sourcing for them everywhere. The hiring procedure is always cumbersome because of the interviews involved and the assessment to know whether the employee is fit for the work (Craig, 2015). Internal hiring reduces tedious work since each department knows its employees well, and therefore interviews and assessments are not important. The workflow of the company will also be effective since the employees already know the firm’s culture and the processes they are supposed to follow.
Cost-effective
Hiring new employees into the company requires posting the job vacancies everywhere and that the employees undergo a background check. Posting the jobs and performing a background check is usually costly and time-consuming (Tulung, 2017). Contrary to external hiring, internal hiring does not need all those processes. Emails may be used to send job opportunities, and background check is usually conducted at the beginning of the work period and therefore costs are minimized.
Improvement of the employer-employee relationship
Promotion of employees in their workplace or shifting them to another area of their interest makes them feel valued and appreciated ( Felin & Powell, 2016). Chances given to employees to grow in their career makes them encouraged to work harder since they feel the company is investing in them. Promotion and shift of workplaces help build a mutual feeling of trust, which in turn strengthens the employer-employee relationship.
Effective Workflow
Hiring new employees requires that the organization take its time explaining to the employee on the firm’s operations (Marx, Singh, & Fleming, 2015). When the workforce is from the organization, there will be minimal time wastage because the employees are already familiar with the operations of the company. The effective workflow will therefore occur and this will make the company realize many profits.
