Companies that engage in illegal businesses, produce substandard products or contaminate the environment are not any more at risk of being exposed from only hypercritics, authorities or the media. To an increasing extent, delinquency in government and private organizations is being exposed by workers who move outside the command line up to “blow the whistle.” Every time the accusations are ascertained to be correct, the whistleblower is considered as a hero and often highly gifted, though in the aftermath of deficient performance appraisals and non-acceptance. On the other hand, without such proof, the whistleblowers are treated as irresponsible “snitches” who are after individual enrichment over team-playing. The national government, as well as numerous private companies, have developed detailed techniques for examining whistleblower assertions along with establishing which perspective applies (Hersh, 2001). This paper evaluates the literature of whistleblowing in the context of whether it is heroism or betrayal.
