Health is wealth. Although many people understand the importance of healthy lifestyles, not all of them find it easy to maintain proper healthy lifestyles. In the 21st century, individuals have busy schedules and do not get time to do things that might promote their health. For example, some people no longer prepare nutritious meals at home or engage in regular physical activities. The majority of them work for long hours while seated in front of their computers. A sedentary lifestyle has become the norm of the day, which significantly contributes to obesity. However, the nursing profession has been linked with promoting good living habits and helping people to embrace healthy lifestyles. Nurses can promote and bolster proper health practices to help individuals realize the benefits of healthy lifestyles. Caregivers should educate the public on the merits of healthy lifestyles to overcome the challenges associated with unhealthy living habits.
People encounter difficulties in maintaining healthy lifestyles since they do not have role models in society. Blandon et al.’s (2017) “Influence of Nurse Education on Healthy Lifestyle Habits of Students: A Literature Review” suggests an effective strategy to address the challenge of maintaining proper healthy lifestyles among individuals in society. The authors assert that nursing students should obtain adequate training throughout their university or college years so that they can use that knowledge and skills to improve the quality of healthcare services and people’s lifestyles in the future (Blandon, Molina, Martin, & Campos, 2017). In other words, Blandon et al. depict that nurses can promote healthy lifestyles in society if they are taught how to bolster proper nutritious habits. Caregivers are the only professionals who stay with their patients for an extended period, and the latter perceive them as the model of healthy habits’ referees.
Blandon et al.’s (2017) article portrays that nurses can be used as transformation agents to improve the quality of individuals’ lifestyles. In that light, education programs that are related to alcohol intake should be included in the curricula used in nursing education (Blandon, Molina, Martin, & Campos, 2017). When caregivers understand the downsides and adverse consequences of alcohol abuse, they can pass the knowledge to society. They can also promote the implementation of Health Education Programs that raise public awareness campaigns on the importance of proper healthy lifestyles in eliminating a myriad of health problems (Blandon, Molina, Martin, & Campos, 2017).
