Musculoskeletal and Neurological Pathophysiologic Process

Research Paper Instructions:

An understanding of the neurological and musculoskeletal systems is a critically important component of disease and disorder diagnosis and treatment. This importance is magnified by the impact that that these two systems can have on each other. A variety of factors and circumstances affecting the emergence and severity of issues in one system can also have a role in the performance of the other.

Effective analysis often requires an understanding that goes beyond these systems and their mutual impact. For example, patient characteristics such as, racial and ethnic variables can play a role.

An understanding of the symptoms of alterations in neurological and musculoskeletal systems is a critical step in diagnosis and treatment. For APRNs this understanding can also help educate patients and guide them through their treatment plans.

In this Assignment, you examine a case study and analyze the symptoms presented. You identify the elements that may be factors in the diagnosis, and you explain the implications to patient health.

By Day 1 of this week, you will be assigned to a specific case study scenario for this Case Study Assignment. Please see the “Announcements” section of the classroom for your assignment from your Instructor.

The Assignment (1- to 2-page case study analysis)

In your Case Study Analysis related to the scenario provided, explain the following:

  • Both the neurological and musculoskeletal pathophysiologic processes that would account for the patient presenting these symptoms.
  • Any racial/ethnic variables that may impact physiological functioning.
  • How these processes interact to affect the patient.

Musculoskeletal and Neurological Pathophysiologic Process
Parkinson's disease(PD) is a neurological disorder that can progressively impact one's movement and is characterized by brain degeneration. According to empirical data, the disease is prevalent across all age groups, and in every 1000 persons, 315 can contract the disease. Nevertheless, the disease is more common among the elderly of more than 65 years. Ideally, the disease has many effects on the nervous system of such patients.
Notably, neurological and musculoskeletal pathophysiologic processes impact patients with PB symptoms. For instance, the body's mobility is often enabled by the body's neurological and musculoskeletal systems. Part of the brain responsible for the production of dopamine may be inhibited by Lewi bodies (Fishman et al., 2021). The Lewy bodies contain proteins that are responsible for the degeneration of dead neurons. Therefore, there is always a transmission signal from the body system to other parts.
Similarly, the process often results in the inhibition of the basal ganglia. Therefore, the process above can be mirrored in the symptoms presented in the case study. For example, one of the symptoms inhibited by the patient in the case study was involuntary tremors in the arms of the patient. The patients also had difficulty speaking, a symptom of patients suffering from PB disease.
Accordingly, most risks associated with PD are based on where one life and their ethnicity. According to data from the national institute of Aging, ...
