Christians view the nature of human persons as things that were created in the likeness of the image of God. Human persons are the only creatures created by God with the ability to have a relationship with him. They are obliged to live according to Gods ways. As a result, this makes human beings to have an intrinsic human value and dignity. The theory based on the moral value of human beings plays a substantial role in the justification of the intrinsic value of human beings. Christians believe that there are wrong and right deeds that a person can do (Jaworska & Tannenbaum, 2013). Therefore, as a Christian, the ability to differentiate between what is wrong and that which is right is what constitutes their moral status. Human persons are expected to act as moral agents and be able to make judgments on what is right or wrong. As a result, they would be able to act according to Gods Biblical teachings which require human beings to live a righteous life. A righteous life requires a human person to differentiate the right deeds that they should follow and avoid the wrong deeds. Being a moral agent represents that intrinsic value of a human person because they can identify the motives that can be judged as good or bad (Beauchamp & Childress, 2013).
In regard to the fetal abnormalities case study, doctors have the obligation of carrying out fetal tests to determine the well-being of the fetus and the mother. This is a requirement by the laws, and it is what leads Dr. Wilson into carrying out the tests on Jessica. Marco is married to Jessica and is willing to support his wife on any decision that she makes based on the pregnancy. Doctor Wilson urges the couple to carry out n abortion based on the cost of raising an abnormal child. On the other, Maria, their Christian aunt tells them to keep the pregnancy and allow God to do his will. Various theories of moral status have influenced the characters into making different judgments. Jessica applies the theory of being a moral agent because she is faced with the obligation of making an important decision on behalf of the family.
