Chapter 12 will be heavy reading. Please keep in mind that the goal is to understand the different types of statistics you would use to analyze data if you are conducting a study. You are not required to memorize the math/formulas.
I have also uploaded two power point slides from the Jacobsen (2012) textbook. The presentation of the information is simpler to understand than the Forister and Blessing text. Reviewing the two files will help you understand what to do after selecting a topic, conducting a literature review, and constructing a research question.
After completing all the readings, please work on the assignment for the week. After reading and reviewing all power points please review the uploaded feedback on Assignment #3 which was on COVID19 Response and Voluntarism (Refer to uploaded materials) this will help you to complete this Assignment #8.
Instructions on Week 8 Assignment (make sure you have read the material in textbook on Chapter 12 and 13 and viewed the Chapter power points along with getting the feedback from week 3 assignment).

1. State your topic. (You come up with topic)
2. State the research statement and question. This should be revised based on feedback from Assignment #3: COVID19 Response and Voluntarism. PLEASE refer to uploaded feedback materials and assignment #3 that are uploaded for your review).
3. Identify the variables of interest in your study. Select a minimum of three demographic variables and a minimum of two variables related to your research question.
4. What study design would you use for your study? Please explain your reason.
5. In 2-3 sentences, describe your ideas for collecting data to answer your question.
6. Based on what you have read, what do you think would be a good statistical test to use to analyze your data? Please explain.

In the pandemic that is happening today, various studies are done to find the best solution and response to the COVID-19 pandemic to slow down the fast rate of virus transmission, decrease the death rates, and cure and eliminate the COVID-19 worldwide. There are 8.19 million confirmed cases and 220 thousand deaths recorded in the United States of America alone, with California, Texas, and Florida having the most cases among the states (CDC, n.d.). This pandemic does not only involve those in the hospitals or the government but every citizen of the community, and it requires the participation of each one in promoting health and safety. In line with this, the research topic will focus on the impact of community and health care voluntarism as part of the COVID-19 response in the United States.
Research Question
What will be the impact of community and healthcare voluntarism on the COVID-19 positive case count and death rate of adults in California?

Demographic Variables
1 Age of 18 to 65 years old
2 Caucasian, Hispanic, African American, and Asian
3 A resident of the United States of America, specifically in the state of California

Research Variables
1 Community voluntarism
This involves community engagement during the pandemic for aid distribution, protective gear distribution to the community and the health care workers, food assistance for people undergoing quarantine to limit exposure, risk-monitoring, and contact tracing, etc.
2 Health care voluntarism
Frontline volunteers for those medical professionals from various fields who can contribute to the hospitals and medical centers in need of manpower due to the increased surge of COVID-19 positive cases and casualties.
3 Case count of infected individuals testing positive in the CoOVID-19 swab test.
