The Intensive care unit (ICU) makes for one of the significant elements in healthcare systems with its equally important role of delivering quality care to critically ill patients. The critically ill patients receive different and often complicated medical attention involving the attachment of patients to supportive equipment to help in the administration of medication and aid in carrying normal bodily function. Such supportive equipment are necessary for ensuring that the patients’ bodily functions are ongoing even when they are in critical conditions. The ICU is essential for the delivery of quality care to critically ill patients and ensuring their recovery to normal bodily functions. However, admission to the ICU may negatively impact patients upon recovery from the highly sensitive and intense treatment procedures. The high cost of critical care, for instance, makes for one of the challenges facing ICU patients. Patients discharged from the ICU may also develop neuropsychological issues, reduced capacity for physical activity, prolonged weakness, and lower quality of life upon surviving the critical illness CITATION Hod18 \l 1033 (Hodgson, 2018).
