The increasing demand for the delivery of quality health care and increasing awareness among patients for their health care needs and concerns necessitates the adoption of effective interventional measures towards the enhancement of the care providers’ competencies. My practicum experience in nursing education thrives on the said objective of enhancing the nursing students’ competencies in delivering quality care to patients through evidence-based practices in the application of the different nursing theories taught in class. As an aspiring nursing educator, the practicum experience equally provides an effective platform for the application of the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired in class towards the delivery of quality health care in clinical setting. Provided herein is a reflection of the practicum experiences through the lens of my teaching and learning practicum objectives.
The teaching and learning individualized practicum objectives include the identification of effective evidence-based practice models embraced in the clinical settings as well as their efficacy in imparting the required competencies in nursing education. Another set objective for the practicum involved the development of equally effective evidence-based teaching strategies for the enhancement of the nursing education profession. The practicum experience was instrumental in the development of informed understanding of the fundamental principles of evidence-based practice in both learning and teaching. In essence, the achievement of the desired outcomes on nursing students requires the incorporation of the best evidence by nursing educators in the teaching strategies towards enhancing the nurses’ competencies CITATION Bos16 \l 1033 (Boswell, 2016).
