Photographer Gregory Crewdson and His Art

All requirements are in fiiles. The photograph which starts with number 05..... is my photograph that I want to use in the paper. The other two pictures are photographs of Gregory Crewdson that I want to use to compare with my photograph.

Simplified 1-2 Sentence Concept of Chosen Artist (This may be, and is recommended to be, of a specific project that they have completed): Gregory presents artfully stories by staging his scenes, which always relate to everyday life in America, with the abundance of details. For instance, in Gregory Crewdson’s Twilight series, we can see wooden houses with low-light, cars parked alone on the road, people stand or lie around passively in different places.

Relationship Between Your Work and Your Chosen Photographer (10 pts.)

Make the connections between process, concept, and compositional strategies between you and your chosen artist. Summarize how the artist you are referencing informed your own process using the camera and creating photographs. Specifically address the compositional strategies and/or process that you “borrowed” and how they informed your concept.

Why did you choose this artist?

When I first saw videos about Gregory Crewdson in the class, I was deeply attracted by his method of taking photos. For a majority of photographer, they tend to catch or record a moment, which is also my previous definition for photography. But to Gregory Crewdson, he prefers to create cinematic scenes according to his psycho world and presents a passive and sad atmosphere. I especially like that he called himself “storyteller”. Similarly, I also want to use camera on my hands to tell and retell my stories.
