Reaction Paper Instructions:

The paper you submit should include both a summary of the research article and a reaction to that article. In the summary section, you should describe the purpose of the article (i.e., the main question that the authors were addressing), briefly describe the methods the authors used to address their question, and summarize the results and conclusions. I would try to limit this portion to 1-1.5 pages in length.
In the reaction portion of your paper, you should write about your thoughts concerning the article. Were you surprised by the results? What do you think makes the article important? What was your overall opinion of the article? Do you have any remaining questions about the topic? You don’t need to address ALL of these questions, but they are the sort of questions you should have in mind as you write your reaction. Summary
In the article “Prejudice and Perception: The Role of Automatic and Controlled Processes in Misperceiving a Weapon,” Keith Payne explores the influence of racial cues in interpretation when identifying weapons. The article investigates the role of racial bias and perception when it comes to race. The author had two reasons for conducting this investigation (Payne 181). The first purpose of the article is to explore the influence of racial cues when people are identifying weapons within a priming model. The second purpose of the article is to determine how automatic bias and controlled perception relate to obvious racial attitudes and incentives (Payne 182).
To conduct this investigation, the author conducted two experiments. Experiment 1 comprised of 24 women and 7 men and none of the participants were black. Participants first completed a questionnaire on their level of their perception whether they were racist or prejudiced. After this, they competed a computerized task that comprised of black and white male faces. The experiment stationed black males as primes followed by tools that were either handguns or hand tools (Payne 183). The participants were supposed to associate either the black or white faces with either handguns or hand tools. In experiment 2, 32 non-black participants with 25 women and 7 men participated. The researcher replicated the experiment but the participants were told they would be measured for speed and accuracy in making the match.
