The article “Why the Racial Wealth Gap Persists, More Than 150 Years After Emancipation” by Calvin Schermerhorn of 19th June 2019 from The Washington Post shows why the racial wealth divide continues to broaden in the United States of America (USA). Schermerhorn argues that although the Declaration of Emancipation was supposed to be a new dawn for African Americans, they up-to-date encounter discrimination that makes them remain at the bottom of the economic ladder. The author says, “But for every gain black Americans made, people in power created new bundles of discrimination, largely hidden from sight, that thwarted, again and again, the economic promise of emancipation” (Schermerhorn).
