Regulatory codes of gender and sexuality are among the norms that were put through critical pressure by the dada and surrealists. Gender was a major issue in the rejuvenation and revitalization of social, cultural as well as political power during the interwar. Additionally, feminist methodologies adjusted and accommodated sexual politics such as Dada and Surrealism which were focused on cultural uprising over formal innovations. It is important to understand that Dada and Surrealism were similar in that they were both guided by the same radical political rapport. Indistinguishably, the two movements also concealed essential differences and variations regarding productive contexts and philosophical alignments. Dada was known for its anti-art rhetoric while Surrealism was recognized for rejecting high-art standards.
There were crucial occurrences that were observed during the post-World War period. During this time Dada debauched while Surrealism attained momentum enabling it to change male-female power relationship and connection. Surrealism also managed to introduce radical ideas relating to gender identity and the falling rates of sexual productivity were addressed as high-priority social problems. It is keynoting that the wartime exhaustion and the incapacitated men populations, as well as the short-time turnaround of gender roles during the Second World War, brought the gender and sex systems to severe crises.
