• Introduction
Identify the problem statement.
Review of the Literature/Background; Research Question
Student clearly identifies how the literature justifies the problem and leads to the research question. Question listed (or statement of implied question if can be determined-or a statement of no question can be determined).
Background and research question
Give a brief commentary of the background or literature review. Is it broad and seem to cover the body of knowledge about the phenomenon?
Is there evidence of the need for this study from the literature review?
Any conceptual or philosophical underpinnings?
State the purpose and research question(s). If no question, is there an implied question? Do topic, problem statement, purpose, and research question go together?
Sample, Setting, and Methods
Student clearly identifies all areas of each section. States the procedures used and if they are in alignment to the method. Limitations and ethical considerations addressed

Briefly describe the sample and sampling type. Include the number of participants. Also consider other demographics if listed. Are any recruitment details listed? Where was the setting? Is saturation noted?
(Example: Participants included 108 educators (96 females, 12 males; 40 African Americans, 64 Caucasians, 4 others) enrolled in an online Doctor of Education program in the Pacific Northwest. Recruitment took place over 2 months through direct email with assistance from college programs. Potential participants received an online message about the study with contact information if interested. Telephone interviews took place in the homes of the participants. Recruitment continued until saturation was reached.)

Findings and Discussion/Limitations/Summary
Student is able to correctly identify sections and explain how findings and discussion are supported by the data. Rigor is identified. Implications listed and summary statements rationale and well thought out.

Are findings aligned with the study purpose and research question? How do the findings compare to other literature? Is there a statement of rigor and how is rigor (what criteria did they use) shown for the study? State the implications and/or recommendations.

Identify the limitations discussed and any that you identified.
• Your summary
Your own summary: was this well-written? Did it need more detail? Does the author(s) have credibility? Did this make sense? What is your overall impression?
