The 2001 study Comparing London and Frankfurt as world cities: a relational study of contemporary urban change by Beaverstock, Hoyler, Pain, and Taylor is quite interesting. The researchers highlight their purpose as “to investigate relations between London and Frankfurt with the coming of a single European currency.” With globalization impacting the world and all of its major aspects, the researchers sought to understand how London and Frankfurt fit into all of this. The issue here is that even though London is still considered as the dominant city in Europe, Frankfurt could be catching up with it especially when one considers the strides it has made as a financial center. The researchers thus set the groundwork for their elucidation of the inter-city relations between London and Frankfurt.
