Certainly, the author seeks to ascertain the internal dynamics of the African American people living in Durham, North Carolina. In particular, the author explores the economic success of the African-American community, through examining some of the middle class and business people from the community. The arising question, therefore, is answered through the provided analysis, which is central to, the conflicts between the upper class of Black American and professional working classes. While historical America was harsh to the Black-American community, some of the Black-American people achieved respectability, which instead of freeing the Blacks from this harshness; it further led to segregation among the Blacks (Brown, 2008).
As part of the segregation efforts, women often switched jobs, migrated a mechanism that aimed at segregating themselves from the rest of the population. With this, the author makes known his questions on discrimination of the African-American community in America, and further explores how the community attempted to advocate equality from the middle-class group of Blacks. Apparently, the author provides significant knowledge, which proves his rationale, in that, the upper class African Americans enhanced the historical injustices against Black Americans in the American community (Brown, 2008).
