The video “Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder Crisis Panel” is very informative about how companies should manage crises. The panel comprises three crisis management and communication experts. David Henderson represents the journalist perspective, the business communicator is Joshua Kong, and Matthew Farrell is the legal representative who deals with defense, national, and cybersecurity crisis management. I like the contributions of these individuals who have in-depth understanding and experience in crisis management. The primary lesson obtained from the video is that every organization should have a plan of managing possible crises and clearly define every person's roles.
The crisis management team should determine and address existing problems before they escalate and become unmanageable. One of the worst things companies do is know that problems exist and fail to solve them immediately. For example, employees of a specific firm might know that the conveyor belt has a problem and fail to report this issue to the management team. However, with time, consumers might notice traces of plastic in the product and start asking questions about the quality of the products from that company. At this juncture, a problem that should have been addressed becomes a crisis, which might tarnish the company’s reputation.
