In A Worn Path, one characteristic of Phoenix Jackson is that she is determined. Phoenix encounters a lot of challenges as she walks from her home to a distant town. For example, the road has thorns that catch her dress, a big log fallen on the path, barbed-wire blocks her way, and long dead wheat stalks cover the path but she maneuvers without giving up so that she can reach the town (Welty).
The other characteristic of Phoenix is that she is courageous. When she falls in a ditch, a young white man gets her out but he later points a gun at her. She demonstrates courage that even the young man sees that she is not afraid of the gun. Phoenix reveals that she is not scared of being pointed a gun given that she has seen worse gun shots close to her that she is not scared at all (Welty). She also demonstrates coura...
