Science fiction allows us to speculate on what is likely to occur in the future through hypotheses. It is an imaginative genre of fiction that uses terms such as time and space travel, parallel universes, and aliens. Below are two hypotheses on the end of humanity and first contact.
The apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction comprises of global events that are catastrophic in nature. As such, there is a hypothesis to predict the end of humanity, which states that its cause is a nuclear war. There are over six countries globally and increasing that still produces nuclear weapons, secretly or publicly. Some are the United States of America, China, and Israel, among others. If they decide to go to war, for any reason whatsoever, the explosions would be powerful enough to eradicate the entire humanity, and those who survive are likely to fall ill and die. The world would then return to the Stone Age era.
Science fiction also encompasses the ‘First Contact', which refers to the initial contact and interaction between humankind and extra-terrestrials or aliens.
