Online Classes Adaptation
Since the outbreak of Coronavirus disease in December 2019, life in China has changed in almost every aspect. A significant impact of the pandemic is the surge in electronic learning (e-learning) nationwide nearly overnight. Around mid-February last year, the term was due to recommence after the New Year holiday. However, China's government declared that all institutions be closed, which resulted in many institutions starting teaching online, and Nanning Social Welfare Institute was no different. Via web platforms, millions of students resumed classes, but due to the increased number of users using the web platforms simultaneously, the internet crashed at some point in February (Sun et al. 687). In general, adaptation to online classes has been a problem from the start of the Covid-19 disease. Institutions have been using different formats such as mini-videos, consultation time, and live streaming, to cite a few as they endeavor to make online teaching as effective as possible. Entailed is a project discussion of the issue, online classes adaptation, as I have learned from the ten hours teaching English at Nanning Social Welfare Institute via online platforms.
Issue Chosen Description
Online class adaptation is faced with numerous challenges. As a teacher of English at Nanning Social Welfare Institute, one thing I can say is common is that before the pandemic outbreak, the institutions had no resources or experience to conduct online classes. They never imagined finding themselves in such a scenario. (Sun et al. 687). Therefore, most of the teachers are learning on the job, and so are the students. Again, syllabuses such as physical education (P.E), science practical lessons, and music are almost impossible. Teachers find it difficult to assess students' understanding during classes. Some students, particularly the young ones, lack the skills needed to learn online. Their ability to use digital devices is limited, and self-discipline to keep them from distraction is an issue.
The issues that have arisen have resulted in institutions trying many practices to adapt (Sun et al. 687). For instance, Nanning Social Welfare Institute has integrated educational technology into their curriculum, arranged online training for teachers, and provided online resources to support both teachers and learners, a sign of good leadership. Cambridge International East Asia office has designed several professional teachers' developmental activities. For instance, they have developed webinars in both Chinese and English on how to teach online. Besides, they share live webinars that show a selection of practical live streaming tools and MOODLE (Sun et al. 687). All these are actions of advocacy. Still, regardless of the actions taken, online class adaptation is a problem.
Plan Description
Nanning Social Welfare Institute being a non-profitable organization, encounters numerous challenges such as limited resources, teachers, and technology that make online class adaptation problematic. That said, I plan to take various actions from the One-Hour Activist, hoping to help my organization. To start with, I will take action two, which entails picking my issue and angle. In this, I will conc...
