According to Lefebre (2011), social workers do not work for money. Instead, they work because they believe in second chances and that people can change. In life, people often find themselves in difficult circumstances that might threaten their quality of life. Such people require the help and guidance of social workers. Social workers tend to wounds of people sacrificed to circumstance. They work with kids who spend more time with social workers than their parents. Such kids are an accident waiting to happen. Such children come from marginalized communities, and therefore, their problems result from difficult circumstances such as poverty.  
Lefebre argues that the limp with which the kids walk with disguised as ‘swag’ is a result of the burden of marginalization that they carry every day. Such children are desperate to find someone they can look up to. Though such kids have desperation written on their faces, social workers see potential when they look at them. In society, such kids are 'invisible,' and their circumstances are ignored by the very system that is supposed to protect them. Some resort to crime as a way of seeking attention because it is only in courts where they can be heard.
What we learn from Lefebre is that social workers help people who find themselves in difficult circumstances.
