Briefly discuss the relationship between women's empowerment and economic development. 
Economic development and women empowerment are closely correlated. This is because economic development is used to reduce the gap between men and women in society. On the other hand, empowering women in an economy is very important because it benefits economic development in a given country. Empowering women in a community assists in creating a direct path towards the eradication of poverty, and gender inequality. Empowering women in a country promote economic growth. Women can play a very important role as business owners, entrepreneurs or casual employees. Empowering women means that women have been allowed to control some activities in the economy (Duflo 7). A lot of scholars today have proved that women empowerment triggers economic growth of a certain country. Empowering women means the government and society are doing everything possible to reduce gender inequality. Women should be given the freedom to choose everything they want. Women should not only be involved in household activities, but they should also be allowed to participate in politics and economic development of a country.
There is a need to motivate and encourage women in society so that they will be able to participate in different activities. For example, increasing the income of women or allowing them to own material assets will enhance women empowerment and reduce the chances of poverty. If the government can implement interventions that can enhance women empowerment, then it is possible to enhance economic development because the per capita of a country will improve. The participation of women in some sectors of the economy promotes economic development because there is great efficiency. Investing in the education of the girl child is the best strategy any government should take in reducing poverty levels (Duflo 10). The development activities of any country should include building the capacity of women and overcoming any barriers that limit women being empowered and making their choices. Women who are living in poverty will always concentrate on looking for practical needs for survival. Therefore empowering women will reduce poverty levels and in turn, economic development will be promoted.
