Sociology Reflection Paper
In sociology, the main focus has been on how people interact and relate to each other in the society. It has also enabled us to learn the composition of the society in in economic, social, and political terms, and how people with different opinions learn to live together. For instance, I got to understand that people differ in ideologies in cultural practices and beliefs, but one key approach to maintaining peace is embracing even those of a different opinion. The course also allowed us to understand the various social evils in the society, their causes, and the impacts they have on the general society. The country is characterized by being diverse, progressive, and multicultural. The national government has been the instigator of the multicultural ideology since it emphasizes the social importance of immigration. This has also helped in minimizing cases of social inequality in the county, and promoting the rights of different citizens regardless of their race, gender, or ethnicity (Rajotte, 2013). This has helped me to understand that once the culture of a country is multicultural, then it becomes easy to fight social inequality and promote equality regardless of one’s race, gender, or ethnicity. In Canada, this has mainly been possible due to the contribution of the national government.
