In this discussion post, you will examine one of the best-known intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), the United Nations (UN), which was founded in 1945 and currently has 193 Member States. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has identified 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs) are established by a treaty that leads to their formation and primarily involves sovereign states. This fact means that the involvement of IGOs has an impact economically, socially, and politically on member states. Most of the effects of IGOs are positive, especially socially and economically, but the political field has more negative effects. The positive effects include improved health status, poverty reduction, reduced child mortality rate, and reduced school dropouts in the member states. While the negative ones include biased participation during decision-making, isolation of member states from developing countries, and political interference that disrupts and delays the decision-making process.
The idea to form IGOs was very bright since the world is enjoying its fruits.
