Over the past three months, the sales in the organization have declined due to poor designs and software malfunctions and your department has been identified as part of the problem. As the department leader, you want to involve your team in identifying and solving any problems within your department.
Using the module required readings, videos, and your personal experience, prepare a two-page memo to your team. Provide a problem-solving process the organization can establish for such situations to properly identify such problems. Justify why you believe the approaches are best for the department.
NOTE: Keep in mind that you are not trying to solve the problem of the decline in sales, but rather you are introducing a problem-solving protocol. You do not know what is causing the problem, so solving it is not an option at this point.

In light of our organization’s mission and vision of becoming a global leader in software development in a high-tech industry, I’m writing to inform you that we have not achieved much in the past three months due to a decline in the sales of our products. Recently, we have had issues with our clients complaining about the design and software malfunctioning. While we have made phenomenal leaps to see our organization grow over the past, our department has been identified as part of the current failure of the company in making more sales and increase its revenue flow.
Software design and development has often been disregarded in the IT industry but has grown from a barely ad-hoc phase to a critical element in the development process (The Open University, 2021). Besides, the ever-increasing complexity of modern systems has introduced a set of unique challenges that have made it hard for seasonal software developers to meet specific customer needs for quality products. Such needs have challenged software engineers to pay closer attention to the process of software development and implement the know design principles, procedures, and professional practices in a bid to overcome the conundrum.
In particular, our company has in the past witnessed issues with the design process, requirements volatility, efficient human resource allocation to some development tasks, quality issues such as security, usability, and performance, constrained budget, rapid changes in the technology stack, distributed software development, and precise transformation from product requirement to a software product. These challenges can pose serious threats to the effective design process (Dasanayake et al., 2019). As your leader of the design department, I am convinced that we can overcome such challenges if we implement the following problem-solving protocols.
Requirement volatility often occurs due to the complexity of software projects and the change in customer requirements. However, proper software design facilitates seamless modification and extension as per the needs of customers (Dasanayake et al., 2019). Notably, the poor design of the software makes the process of modifying a daunting task. Another important step to resolve the current situation is the process of developing systems. In software engineering, some steps and schedules need to be followed while accounting for budget constraints. Therefore, we should have a sound, consistent, and understood the process of developing systems for our clients.
In the tech industry, we have seen a rapid change in technology stack with different clients preferring one stack over another (Harvard Business Review, 214). These changes are not unique to the tech sector but have been witnessed in education, health care systems, defense, education, and almost every industry.
