In the previous assignment (SLP 2), an outline of the literature review (Chapter 2) was created for the proposed Dissertation research study. The next step is to draft the body of the literature review.
A sound literature review is an extremely important component of any research project; therefore, writing a properly structured literature review is a very important skill to continuously develop throughout the Ph.D. program.
Recall from Module 1 that a literature review (also expressed as “a review of the literature”) is an overview of previous research on the topic or on an important aspect of the topic. It identifies, describes, sometimes analyzes, and summarizes related published research on the topic. To best understand the role of a literature review, consider its place in the research process and in the research document.
The research process often begins with a question that the researcher would like to answer. A literature review is conducted to identify current knowledge about the topic. The literature review requires examining scholarly books and journal articles, and sometimes additional resources such as conference proceedings and Ph.D. dissertations. Doctoral-level research requires knowledge about what is already known about a topic to ensure the research significantly adds to the current body of knowledge rather than repeating the work of others. Familiarity with previous research also aids in developing the research design. Once foundational knowledge is obtained through an extensive, yet focused, literature review, the study can be effectively planned: What are the research questions and related hypothesis? What are the research variables? How will data be obtained? How will data be analyzed and synthesized?
Research papers (i.e., Ph.D. dissertations) follow a general outline: abstract, introduction, identification of research questions, literature review/background, explanation of the theory and hypotheses guiding the research, research methods, results, and discussion of research findings.
In this assignment, construct a draft of the SLP 5 Mini Literature Review body (Chapter 2) for the proposed research study.
Prepare a draft literature review of 4-6 pages for the research study.
Part 1:
Select two of the major themes outlined in the dissertation literature review from the previous assignment.
For each major theme, identify at least two new empirical articles (four articles total) related to each theme. These articles should not be the ones that used for previous SLP assignments.
Write four statements (2-3 paragraphs each) that synthesizes what is presented in each of the four articles.
Part II:
Select two of the major theories from the outline of the dissertation literature review created in the previous assignment.
For each major theory, identify at least two new empirical articles (four articles total) related to each theory. These articles should not be the ones that you used for previous SLP assignments.

In addition, the households cannot afford good care and diet for the kids. Poor families have the challenge of getting even the basic needs.
