A person's affiliation and identification are made evident to others while they are wearing a uniform. The two articles offer contrasting arguments for and against wearing school uniforms. Wendell Anderson of the Eugene-based ERIC Clearinghouse on Educational Management is the author of the first article, "School Dress Codes and Uniform Policies," published in the Policy Report journal cite, Volume 4, in 2002. Anderson (2002) argues that wearing school uniforms benefits the students and the academic institution. It promotes students' improved behavior, academic performance, and a better learning environment. On the other hand, the second article is written by Samantha Deane, affiliated with Loyola University Chicago; the title is "Dressing University: Politics of Difference and the Case of School Uniforms," written in 2015. The article belongs to Philosophical Studies in Education journal cite, Volume 46. Deane (2015) argues that school uniforms may hinder students' ability and knowledge of diversity and humanity. Even though this issue has sparked discussions and several oppositions, it might be argued that students wearing school uniforms can still learn about diversity, values, and humanity.
Both articles hold the view that learning occurs in schools. Anderson (2002) contends that morals and discipline should be taught in the classroom. One of the ways that students can encourage discipline is by wearing their school uniforms and adhering to the dress regulations. Since they are all dressed similarly, the pupils will stick to their uniforms daily and understand the importance of equality.
