In most societies, most people are skeptical about talking about matters regarding suicide. However, suicide is a critical matter that requires people of all ages to be informed about it and trained on how to avoid suicide ideation. According to Turecki et al. (2019), suicide rates are higher among the elderly in most societies because of depression. Depression is a condition that disables an individual and causes people to no longer to feel interested in doing things they once enjoyed. As a result of depression, most older people opt to commit suicide (Hedegaard & Warner, 2021). Additionally, feeling isolated and lonely also contributes to a high suicide rate. At an elderly age, an individual tends to have mostly lost touch with people they loved and, therefore, one feels that they are alone and have no reason to live. Also, having declining physical health leads to a personal feeling that they are a burden to society, hence opting to commit suicide.
