Suicide Prevention
Introduction
The title for the brochure is Suicide Prevention. It was published on July1, 2019. Seven new and revised elements of performance were applicable to all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals and behavioral healthcare organizations (Betz, 2016).
Summary of Brochure
Every year, over 30,000 people in the United States kill themselves (Mann, J 2005) Every day, people all across the world commit suicide. Some people's circumstances make them more prone to commit suicide. Troubles with family, friends, careers and social life are leading causes of suicide. Many suicides occur among individuals who have recently been seen or are presently receiving treatment in a clinical environment, yet, suicide prevention has not been a top focus in health care. Depression is the primary cause of suicide among individuals suffering from mental health issues, as a result, people in this state of mind are generally in a bad mood and may have suicidal thoughts from time to time.
Patient Communication
When bringing up the topic, it is okay to use the word suicide in your conversation with your patients. This aids in better understanding of what they are thinking by putting their low mood in context and leads to a conversation about what bothers them and what stimulates their suicidal thought. Secondly, put their feelings into words. Determine any protective factors in a patient's life that prevents them from harming themselves. This could be a pet or a child who requires their attention (Klomek,2020). Lastly, try not to cheer them up because it will shut down the conversation and suffocate their feelings.
Personal Reflection
Suicide is a complicated issue that we typically avoid discussing. Perhaps if we talk about our feelings and thoughts, we will discover that we are more alike than different and that we are not alone in our thoughts and sentiments. Most importantly, we will recognize that there are individuals in our life who genuinely care about us. If we are all willing to share our issues, perhaps fewer people will consider suicide as a way to end their suffering. Conversations that are simple and honest mean life or death (Moutier,2021).
Evaluation of Brochure
New diagnostic and therapeutic methods have been created, evaluated, and adopted in certain organizations in recent years, but they have not yet gained widespread adoption. The possibility of increasing suicide prevention in healthcare settings is examined in this article. We are particularly interested in Zero Suicide, a strategy for better identifying and treating individuals at risk of suicide. The method incorporates new scanning, treatment, and support tools, and it has been...
