Introduction
Various studies have constantly demonstrated that suicide is one of the leading causes of mortality among teenagers aged 12 to 19 in the U.S. population. Since the rates have been immensely surging, the suicidal and non-suicidal self-thoughts and behaviors are part and parcel of the main teenage public health apprehensions. Such essential concepts are established with a coordinated strategy to suicide prevention to make a potent contribution to lessening the concerning rates (Glenn et al., 2017). Teen suicidal ideation can be associated with various risk factors such as abuse and misuse of alcohol and other drugs, exposure to depressive conditions, impulsivity, psychiatric diagnosis, family history related to suicide, or losses. A piece of research similarly illustrates that suicidal action is one of the significant reasons for death among Caucasian teenagers of ages 15 to 19 (CDC, 2018). Healthy People 2030 has also manifested concern by establishing an approach that will ensure that the present percentage (14.2) drops to a significant level (12.8) in every 100,000 U.S. population (Mellick et al., 2019). The matter is more severe due to the identified population—teenagers—that is severely affected. Consequently, this research intends to establish a ground for reducing suicide rates among teens of Caucasian descent. It also anticipates launching an association between Healthy People 2030, including health promotion aspects and strategies.
Caucasian Culture
About 60.1% of the United States population is made up of Whites; thus, people of Caucasian descent are the largest group. Caucasian teenagers are the majority among the U.S. youth population. Most of the people of Caucasian ancestry are known to enjoy a stable socioeconomic status in the United States compared to other ethnic groups. Besides, the Caucasian culture is based on superiority. Causadias et al. (2018) posit that Caucasian families strive for excellence and self-reliance. Thus, such cultural norms have a significant influence on household development. For instance, a teenage Caucasian may face pressure from his family—the parents can demand excellent performance at school. Correspondingly, such pressure might expose them to stress and a mental disorder. Suicidal ideation may also be a consequential result due to overwhelming circumstances.
Again, some Caucasian youths who identify as lesbians, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) typically experience prejudice from their families and friends. It is because LGBT is viewed as a vice and may cause adverse effects in their lives (Causadias et al., 2018). The Caucasian culture is founded on ethnic and social purity—Caucasians discourage their children from abnormal sexual practices as they approach adulthood. Hence, some of the teens who are LGBT sometimes face discrimination from their friends and some family members.
