Despite the continuous efforts of medical providers, some health care conditions such as diabetes are a major concern. It is estimated that more than 422 million people around the globe are impacted by diabetes (World Health Organization, 2018). Poor lifestyle choices have seen many Americans impacted by diabetes. Particularly, these choices have resulted in obesity cases in the region. Complications associated with diabetes are not only life threatening but also results in increased hospitalization and escalating health care costs. As such, it has been identified that educating nurses on the significance of managing patient’s diabetes will assist in preventing further complications concerning the disease. The education program will enlighten nurses in different departments on complications associated with the disease and the available treatment options. Nurses will also be taught on dietary and activity needs of diabetic patients. There are several experts and scholars who have expounded on ways of managing and preventing diabetes.
Comparison of Research Questions
Research material used in the study was obtained from different sources. According to the study by Stetson et al. (2016), the authors were inclined on determining whether community based programs that provide diabetes intervention, support and care will improve outcomes. McClinchy, (2018) addresses the impact of obesity on diabetic patients. As it was identified in the previous section and by Capehorn (2017), obesity increases the risk of developing type II diabetes by 12.7 times in women and 5.2 times in men. Similar sentiments are echoed by Palmer (2019) who examines in-depth on the impact of weight loss and diet control in diabetic patients. From Edeghere & English (2019) perspective, it is noted that nurses need to educate diabetic patients on the benefits of taking charge of their treatment. In light of technological enhancements in medicine, patients could use electronic devices to monitor their conditions and their insulin dosages. (Campbell & Shokrani (2016) reiterates further and shares on the need for both adults and children to be educated. It also suggests that both type I and II diabetic patients should be enlightened on diabetic management and prevention. Riediger et al. (2018) expounds on the significance of educating nurses on lifestyle changes that would lead to the prevention and management of diabetes. Barbosa & Souza (2018) share on recent innovations that can assist in the treatment of diabetes. These materials highlighted above are all aligned to the PICOT statement and overall research.
Comparison of Sample Populations
The resources used the in research used different sample populations. These ranged from community health care settings to care homes that attended predominantly to older people with diabetes (Stetson et al., 2016). The research material was also gathered from peer reviewed studies and diabetic patient records. Data was obtained from clinics, hospitals and specialized outpatient clinics (Barbosa & Souza, 2018). Additional information was also received from the CDCs diabetes educational programs in Kansas, Minnesota and Trib...
