It is the job of the early childhood educator to advocate for the resources required to meet the needs of all students. Early childhood educators should be ready to provide the information policy and decision makers need to determine the value of differentiated early childhood education programs.
For this benchmark assignment, research a current statute in which the state legislature has made a decision that affects the differentiation needs of early childhood students. Then, write a letter to your legislative representative either for or against the statute, advocating for the differentiated needs of early childhood students.

The state has done a commendable job towards ensuring that all learners, including those with disabilities and special needs have equal access to education regardless of their condition. These special education programs have been instrumental in helping members develop both their academic and personal skills, transforming them into self-sufficient members of the society. The No Child Left Behind Act has specifically ensured that schools become more accountable for the academic performance of all learners, whether they had disabilities or not. Whereas the act has transformed the learning experience of children with disabilities, it is also important to consider some of the areas that may require improvement. It is for this reason that I write to you to look into these issues and address them as soon as possible.
One of the areas that the statute needs to address is the evaluation measures instituted to ensure better student performance. As Gaille (2017) posits, the student’s performance still heavily determines the teacher’s future in their teaching career. In the event that the student fails to perform well, the teacher ends up receiving poor marks in their annual review. This approach creates unnecessary tension among teachers, making some of them feel threatened. Consequently, most of them have been forced to teach for purposes of making the learners pass their tests, rather than transforming them into overall better students. While the process was intended to help the students, it has instead hurt the learning opportunities of many of them because teachers prioritize passing of the tests as a means of securing their jobs.
In this regard, there is a need to develop an alternative assessment procedure that considers the interests of both the learners and their teachers. The assessment should be designed in a manner that fosters linguistic, social, emotional, and physical learning. One of the key areas of improvement that should be considered is observational assessment, which focuses on understanding the learner’s physical and cognitive development. Both parents and teachers should learn how to observe their young ones as they transition through the different learning stages. Making such a change towards collaborative teaching would make both teachers and parents explore different ways of nurturing these learners into more capable performers.
Another challenge associated with this act is the federal underfunding. While the state has made significant progress in ensuring that some of the major reforms are in place, the funding is still not sufficient for the schools to completely embrace the reforms (Editor in Chief, 2015).
