Critical Reflection Paper
My heart broke as I watched the film This Changes Everything. I saw how negligent the human race is becoming with each passing day. The article titled Environmental Migration is but a detailed account of how man’s negligence happens to impact his living conditions, eventually rendering his lands uninhabitable. As is said in the film, we have developed a one-way relationship with nature which means that we try to extract as much as possible from nature without thinking of how we can give anything back. Oil, coal, mineral resources, and even farming happen to take advantage of nature. However, with a rise in population, the solution to deal with such numbers has inadvertently increased what humanity can extract from the Earth. Such a move exerts more pressure on nature and makes me wonder whether there is a better way to go about feeding and catering to the needs of this large population. Using more of the land available has proven ineffective because instead of securing the future, this move is proving counterproductive with adverse effects experienced. The film and the article are such crucial resources to help paint a clear picture of the sad reality that the world faces. There is a need to take a firm approach in dealing with climate change. People have to stand united and take it as a personal goal to fight together to ensure a change in conduct becomes a reality.

In a place like Alberta, Canada, the film shows a field that is said to be 220 square kilometers where tar sand is collected. The tar sand is then taken through a process that yields oil. As seen in the video, the workers in the tar sand ar...
