Book Review: Anthills of the Savannah by Chinua Achebe
Anthills of the Savannah is a classic novel by Chinua Achebe, a Nigerian author and literary genius who wrote many influential books. The book's main setting is a fictional West African nation known as Kangan. This is where the main events in the novel take place. Sam, also called His Excellency, is the leader of the nation after a military coup succeeds. Through the novel, the author elaborates on the political events using the experiences of Chris Oriko, Beatrice Okoh, and Ikem Osodi. These three friends hold prominent positions within the Kangan society. Chris works with the government as the Commissioner of Information, while Beatrice is an officer within the ministry of finance. Chris and Beatrice have an intimate affair.
