Do the Right Thing (1989) is an entertaining film that captures the racial differences that characterized American society at the time. Set in Brooklyn’s African American neighborhood, the film depicts how racism is part of daily interactions and how it can cause violence. One of the main characters of the film is Sal who owns and manages Sal’s Pizzeria. His two sons Vito and Pino are employees at the pizzeria. While Sal is Italian, his business, which he has run for 25 years is in a predominantly black community. It is evident that he not only loves the business, but also the community that supports it.
