Many changes have happened in the Masai community ever since the filming of the documentary "Welcome to Loliondo." Among the main change that has occurred in the Maasai community is that a substantial number of them are getting an education that has contributed to a change in their culture. For instance, the Maasai in the film wrap their bodies with certain Maasai attire and do not acknowledge the wearing of modern clothes. However, after having received an education, most of them were the western attires, and someone cannot tell whether they are Masai not unless they hear it from them. As well, some of the rich and learned Masais are building modern houses as compared to the Manyattas depicted in the film. They also depend on hospitals for treatment as compared to the use of traditional herbs. However, their herbs are a treasure to the community, and most of them still use them.
These changes have been caused by the forces of modernization in Kenya. A lot of the tribes in the country have turned to the modern way of life whereby a person has to get a quality education and build a well-paying career. It is the pressure of living a prestigious life that has forced them to accept the modern ways of life. Kenya has a democratic form of government, and hence, this has called for the Masais to take part in the nation's leadership instead of their traditional way of ruling. In addition, a community's participation in the nations politics has an impact on the manner in which they receive national resource. Among such resources are rural developments in terms of social amenities. The social amenities not only help in the improvement of the people's ways of live Healthwise and education wise but also play a role in the creation of employment opportunities. Therefore, this has resulted in people from the community turning into the modern ways of other communities in the country so that they can enjoy the same benefits.
