Summary
According to the speaker, Ann Cooper, the society no longer cares about teaching children about food. As a result, the speaker is on a mission of educating children about eating healthy foods from regional farms. The central aspect of unhealthy eating is caused by the commodification of food by the government and the need for fast food companies to create revenue (Cooper, 2007). Further, the government allows the marketing of unhealthy food that is cheaper and lack nutrient. The speaker examines and provides numerous examples to support his ideas. First, Cooper believes the marketing and popularization of unhealthy foods is a social justice issue. As a result, most schools serve children government commodity foods that are unhealthy (Cooper, 2007). Second, the speaker urges schools and parents across the United States to feed children with foods that have high nutritional value. In schools, children should be taught how to eat local, sustainable, seasonal, and educational foods.
