The First Presenter’s (Yurou) Reflection and Its Application to Weekly Readings
The COVID-19 pandemic affects everyone starting from children, adolescents, and adults. Since the disease was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), many schools were closed to avoid the faster spread of this illness. As such, I agree with the presenter that one of the effects of COVID-19 is traumatized children who cannot be taken care of by teachers since they have been sent home. The Public Child Welfare (PCW) have significant decisions to make since they are the ones directly associated with the wellbeing of young people during these challenging moments. Deirdre Williams says that if children are not well protected, some of the poor outcomes they might experience include long-standing and severe behavioral, emotional, and physical risks that might continue into adulthood (Williams, 2020). As such, these problems can result in long-term issues with health, stability, and employment.
The government introduced various regulations to contain the transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic. The presenter made it clear that communities with positive cases of coronavirus were isolated. In my opinion, isolation and quarantine are among the best measures that the government implemented to reduce the spread of COVID-19. When it comes to the restriction of pet owners to leave their animals at home, I do not think it can lead to psychological problems. The question I can ask is: Between the life of humans and animals, which is the most important? In my opinion, people should be protected first from coronavirus so that they can take care of their pets. Alisic et al. (2011) depict two primary methods of dealing with stress. The first one involves changing the person-environment relationship, and the second one is changing emotions (Alisic et al., 2011). As such, pet owners should adapt to the one the suits them the best.
Answer to Question One
One of the traumatic events that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused people are losing their loved ones. Many people, especially those with underlying health conditions, such as hypertension, have died after getting infected with the coronavirus. Some children have been left parentless, and their lives have changed to the worst. Such families that have lost their breadwinners are left with numerous challenges since they cannot afford basic necessities, such as food, shelter, and clothes. In some instances, house owners are pressurizing tenants to pay outstanding rent arrears since COVID-19 left some individuals jobless. However, this problem can be overcome if the government identifies such people who are in dire situations and give them a small financial boost. Moreover, the state can introduce a website for well-wishers and donors to contribute something to help those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic adversely.
