How Large Will Shortage of Primary Care Physicians Be?
Primary Care Physicians (PCPs) are doctors, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who are trained to diagnose, treat, and prevent a myriad of injuries and diseases. These health professionals offer comprehensive care and can manage acute health problems, such as allergic reactions, colds, flu, and bronchitis, and chronic health issues, such as diabetes mellitus. The shortage of PCPs is likely to be large in upcoming years since many graduates are not choosing medical-related courses.

The coronavirus pandemic is a gauge of what would happen if the population of sick individuals increases with the current number of PCPs (Kerns and Willis 1). Indeed, it has shown that the USA needs more PCPs to address the needs of all Americans without straining the current workforce. Some of the things that will further contribute to the shortage of PCPs in the USA are the increasing number of the aging population and the rapid rise of the general population.
