1 How will I contribute to the mission of the nurse corps scholarship program in providing care to underserved communities?
Basing from my knowledge, the nurse corps scholarship program aims to provide support for the nurses to fulfil its vision and mission to improve the health of the community at all times. This includes rendering the services to sustain the needs of the patient in the community. As a nurse, I am always obliged to initiate my service to underserved communities, which improves the physiological and physical integrity of the patients living in the community. I participate in various medical missions by my institution as an example on how I am going to render my services to ensure that improves the longevity of the underserved communities. Medical mission is one of the best ways for the community that I serve with free health care services so that the incidence rate of mortality and morbidity will be improved.
Another contribution that I applied is through the application of assessment as a way for the involved community to become responsive with the procedures of medical services. Assessment is the process wherein I identified the cause of the disease, which has been responsible for accessing the probability of the health care providers to identify the potential diseases in a certain community. Assessment is important in order to identify all problems that exist within the community that might cause a significant risk to the safety of the residents. This includes knowing the health hazards, environmental risks, security threats, and socio-economic problems that affects the lifestyle of the residents. Participating in community development program is an important contribution to ensure that underserved communities will be provided with the needed care in order for them to survive as well as to improve their health status.
2 What experiences have I had that have prepared myself to work with underserved populations? For example, community service internships, and experience with federally-funded health programs, or work in rural, frontier, or tribal settings?
As an experience, I have to adjust the time and effort to accompany the needs of the community because each society has different cultures and identities. Studying existing health data to the targeted community is important because I will be able to identify the problems that affect the community.
