The historical topic of urbanization was an exciting topic and surprising considering the different aspects of lives it influenced positively or negatively. I was particularly impressed by the laborers’ commitment and desire for the best that they left their homes in the rural areas to urban areas, while others left their countries and kin to partake in the American dream. While immigrants are presently still coming into the country searching for a better life, it was such a sacrifice for those initial immigrants to leave their homes for the United States mainly due to the hostile welcome they got. While urbanization was an exciting venture coming up, it surprised me that the laborers had to endure so much suffering from inadequate housing, poor health conditions, extreme competition for survival, and exploitation by political parties.
