Essay Instructions:
NO OUTSIDE SOURE OR APA PLEASE ! USE THIS SOURCE ONLY PLEASE! TRADITIONS AND ENCOUNTERS BY JERRY H. BENTLEY AND HERBERT F. ZIEGLER PLEASE ANSWER EACH QUESTIONS SEPARATE AND NUMBER THEM 1 – 2 PLEASE PLEASE FOLLOW DIRECTION 1. QUESTION: Discussion 1: Asian Unification 1. QUESTION: As the readings and the weekly introduction show, theologies were crucial in establishing a sense of identity in southern and eastern Asia. In contrast to the later theocracies of the Islamic world or domination of church over state in some periods of history in Medieval Europe, religion in southern and eastern Asia developed on its own and acted to support the state, which also acted to support these religions. For this assignment describe how one Chinese or Indian empire tried to unify their people; what intellectual movement they used (religion or philosophy), how that religion or philosophy promoted state stability, and finally evaluate the impact of the religion/philosophy on the stability of the state. Your empires to select from include: Qin China, Han China, Mauryan India, and Gupta India. Remember just focus on one of the four empires and the religion/philosophy it adopted rather than comparing two or more. I want in-depth examinations for one rather than more shallow examinations for several. One note, Legalism is a philosophy about the use of punishment to control people, it is not about standardization of coins or economic development. Use only course sources for your answer. The reason for that is I want you to take our basic course material's facts and use it to formulate your own ideas and arguments rather than copying what you find in some other source. You are doing a good job with this, I just wanted to put this in as a reminder (not chastising anyone). 2. QUESTION: Discussion 2: Cross-Cultural Exchanges 2. QUESTION: As Chapter 12 in Bentley and Ziegler illustrates, the empires we are studying did not exist in a bubble. Instead they became linked to the other empires through a variety of human travelers. For this discussion describe how one specific cross-cultural exchange worked to link together two or more different empires or groups of people. Be specific in your response. Instead of saying religion linked together two empires; describe how one specific religion, like Buddhism or Christianity, linked together disparate peoples. You can use the examples from Chapter 12 or any of the previous chapters we have examined. In addition to human exchanges, disease is another point of cross-cultural exchange you can also look at in your response. A cross-cultural exchange is where an idea, goods, or even disease are exchanged/transmitted by the people of one civilization to the people of another civilization. One thing to do is to try to not post the same thing over and over again. Look for a topic that has not been already address by your peers or try to produce a new angle for your response. That way we do not end up with 15 initial response posts about the Silk Roads.

QUESTION ONE
Religion and philosophy played a hugely essential role in ensuring that their people had a sense of identity, peace and that the states in which they were in are stable. This can be clearly seen on looking on different countries in southern and eastern Asia. The truth about this can be seen if we focus on the popular china philosophy which was the main method of ruling during the reign of Han china. In this reign, Confucianism became the best mode of ruling and still one of the most followed philosophies in china up to date.it Started after the earlier legalism method of ruling by Qin china became futile after rejection by the rich and the poor, the elites and the illiterate. Confucianism is a philosophy which is named after a popular china philosopher conficious.it Views man as the integral part of the universe with one his basic necessities being his happiness.
