Wong Hau-Hon
Wong Hau-Hon immigrated to Canada in 1882 as a rail worker, and he gives a historical account of immigrants. The journey to Canada starts in Yale, where they sail to Canada for greener pastures; however, life turns out to be harsh, leaving many Chinese immigrants dead due to pandemics and cold weather. Wong Hau-Hon illustrates one incidence whereby they had to remove a huge rock to clear a railway construction path. Hope was a dangerous place. As Wong Hau-Hon explains, they were subjected to hardships, work, no food, and no shelter. He continues to give details of the most dangerous incidences that left most Chinese immigrants dead. According to Wong Hau-Hon (1926), most Chinese people died of epidemics and accidents.
Consequently, even though Chinese immigrants contributed extensively to Canadian development, the government still imposed stiff immigration policies. In his account, more than 3,000 Chinese workers died of pandemics and accidents, lucky to Wong Hau-Hon, because he did not encounter any accident. Furthermore, the accounts were when they had to walk throughout the day and sleep in bushes during the night, with no proper clothes. The entire scenario reflects the challenges that the Chinese immigrants encountered as they tried to settle in Canada.
Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish-American who contributed positively to the expansion of the steel industry in America in the 19th century. Additionally, he is one of the re-known philanthropists and industrialists who contributed to the advancement of America's infrastructure. Andrew Carnegie was the active revolutionists who changed the narrative of capitalism and industrialism in America. Technically, Andrew advocated tax exemptions on income taxes and pushed for 100% tax rates on inherited real estate. His idea resonated because no one owns the entire property; it is a collective property to the community.
Additionally, he also advocated for equal rights to laborers and millionaires; Andrew fought against individualism, terming it selfish. Andrew Carnegie's idea was to bring the community together, uplift the poor and grow together.
