Imagine you work at a company and it is time for an employee named Jim's annual review. While he was a model employee the first nine months of the year, recently Jim has been coming in late. It has not been just a few minutes each day, either. It is starting to cause problems in the production line. In this assignment, write a summary of how you would approach your conversation with Jim. How will you address his recent performance issues while still praising him for his previous nine months of good work? Your goal is to balance negative and positive feedback so that Jim will leave motivated to do his best. How I will Address Jim’s Recent Performance Issues
Given that Jim has been a good employee for nine months, it would be important to identify the source of the problem to address his recent performance issue in the workplace. To do so, I will schedule a meeting with Jim and listen to his side of the story. Perhaps, Jim is not satisfied with the workplace conditions or he has some personal issues preventing him from observing the work ethics. This meeting will offer Jim a chance to air his grievances and share his thoughts before making any decision regarding Jim’s present behaviors. During the meeting, I will ask him why he often comes to work late and remind him that lateness is against work ethics. It may lead to suspension or dismissal.
How I would approach my Converstaion with Jim
I will engage Jim in open and friendly dialogue. Sometimes, employees are fully aware of their performance issues but cannot improve the situation independently unless their superiors listen to their concerns during the performance review(Natural HR, 2020). Communicating with Jim will help me understand his position and the reasons behind his constant lateness.
