In recent decades, some new technologies include smartphones, smart televisions, and smartwatches. Humans have invented technologies to assist them in increasing their efficiency. Aside from improved efficiency, the new technologies also offer entertainment and accessibility to banks or for the payment of utilities in just a few clicks. Moreover, new technologies provide access to social media platforms, where the user does not have to personally travel to the place of another person for a conversation. Instead, they can use social media platforms or online networking sites to share their opinions. These can also be used to read and watch the news and inquire about the world’s updates. Modern technology undoubtedly has a significant impact on the way we interact with one another and the world. There is no doubt that technology will continue to transform our lives in the future. What is new in contemporary society nowadays is the use of autonomous technology, which has changed the lives of humans drastically, both for the better and for the worse, because it performs tasks even without the supervision of a human. However, it comes with advantages and disadvantages. Autonomous technological systems function independently as if they have brains. With such a high level of functioning, it can determine and analyze the circumstances and generate a decision or strategies that best suit the situation. The system knows how to perceive a stimulus, educate itself, justify the options, and act with self-awareness. Consequently, the technology can transform all the analyses into actual human-like performances, such as mobility, productivity, security, and resourcefulness (Bosch). Examples of autonomous systems are factory or domestic robots, self-driving cars, and artificial intelligence assistants (Bosch). In class, the autonomous technologies discussed include the e-Palette, which is a vehicle invented by Toyota, the Waymo Chrysler Pacifica vehicle, and the like (Lecture_12a). In fact, in a few years, everyone may have access to self-driving automobiles, and they will be mainstream once the legal matters have been settled (AgingInPlace). Based on the lecture, one of the autonomous technologies related to self-driving is the Tesla Autopilot, where the car has an artificial intelligence allowing it to drive by itself. The issue here is that the actual driver, who is a person, should be always alert to take over the self-driving car in unexpected circumstances (Lecture_12a). This is probably to avoid accidents.
