Suspect in Quebec Mosque Terror was of Moroccan Origin
In the article there were statements made that proves their initial speculations are wrong because they were quick to judge the attacker to be either Muslim or Moroccan. According to this line in the article: “But these assertions are utterly false. The suspect is neither Moroccan nor Muslim. The Moroccan individual, Mohamed Belkhadir, was actually one of the worshippers at the mosque and called 911 to summon the police, playing no role whatsoever in the shooting.” This only goes to show that immigrants are suspected to be the ones who have the highest tendency to commit a crime. This is false news because the actual shooter is a white French Canadian, 27 years old and his name is Alexandre Bissonnette. Based on his appearance, he is an anti-immigrant nationalist. It was Francois Deschamps who told the local newspaper that he was able to identify the terrorist based on the photo shown to him.
In order to avoid deception, one must know how to spot fake news. Before believing something, read past headlines from the new provider. Check what site it is from, the date and the time, and the author – check if he or she is reliable. Fake news will use links and sources that are not credible so it is important to consider these. If the news has photos, question where they came from and also the quotations in the article. According to Robins-Early, search for the news on reliable websites and see it they have it. It is almost impossible for them not to cover real news. Before sharing the news, think about it and be sure it is real (2016).
The Fallibility principle is being violated here and those who suspected the shooter to be an immigrant should be aware that they could be wrong. When this happens, the person who is in the best situation will let argument’s strength determine which one is substantial. In case none of the arguments could not be supported, the stronger argument has to be determined.
