Ever since the advent of the 21st century, the focus on college education by parents and guardians, as well as the government, has increased tenfold. The general American society seems to have attached success in life to the attainment of the college degree. Tertiary education, and specifically college, appears to have taken the entire nation by storm, in such a way that the only way someone can be taken as successful, is through having a degree. Conversely, this has placed quite a lot of pressure on the others who failed to get into college, since the society automatically tags them as failures, something that is entirely misleading and misplaced. Omitting the costs of college education, there are various other reasons as to why Americans should not go to college since it is not necessarily the only staircase to success.
Americans should not go to college since college education does not necessarily guarantee a job in the outside job market. College education is just like a conveyor belt, churning out graduates with little or no skills, what is also referred to as an assembly line (Neem et.al. 2014). As opposed to the earlier years when employers paid much attention to the number and type of papers an applicant came along with, the present is quite different. Companies now focus more on the experience and the portfolio of the applicant, before now checking on the papers. In some cases, they don't check the papers altogether. The skills and experience that an individual possesses plays a crucial role in the marketability of an individual, instead of the degree certificate.
Talking about skills, college education, in most cases, doesn’t offer the technical and practical skills needed to address issues in the real world.
