Introduction
According to Pollan, the population that eats the western diet (diet consists of lots of processed meat, sugar, salt, refined grains, and whole grain) suffers greater risks of western diseases which include obesity, cancer, type II diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. He notes further that, people who eat traditional diet least suffer from western diseases and record a remarkable improvement in their health than those eating western foods (Pollan 3). In order to advice people on how to live healthy, Micheal Pollan, offers extensive food advice best summed up in eight words: eat food, not too much, and mostly plants. According to Pollan, “eat food” means that one should only eat real food which include fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, and whole grains. Simply put, one should only eat local food only recognized by grandmothers. This means that one should avoid processed food at all costs and ensure that everything eaten is purchased from the farmers markets. In short rephrases, Micheal Pollan clarifies, and gives short and straightforward instructions about better eating.
Eat Food, Not Too much, and Mostly Plants.
Pollan notes that people who do not eat the western diet at better health states than those who depend highly on them. In specific analysis, Pollan notes that typical American population that departed from the western diet reduced their chances of getting cardiovascular diseases almost three-fold, diabetes by almost 90%, and colon cancer by about 70%, as compared to those who sticked to the western diet (Pollan 12). Over the years, the pharmaceutical industry has recorded a major boom mainly because, people now spend more money western diet and as a result increase their chances of suffering from one or more western diseases. Pharmaceutical industries make by treating chronic diseases than treating them, that is why little information has been availed to the public by them.
